A Celebration of Singing at Stonyhurst

A Celebration of Singing at Stonyhurst

On 17th June 275 children from 9 local primary schools raised the roof at St Peter’s Church, Stonyhurst College when they attended ‘A Celebration of Singing’.  Led by Stonyhurst’s Director of Music, Martyn Marshall, the day was filled with energy and excitement as children sang a range of songs from the Lion King to ‘Gonna Rise Up Singin’ by Don Besig.  As the day unfolded children had the opportunity to take a tour of the college and listen to our curator, Jan Graffius, who explained about the history of the college and let the children handle some of the museum pieces from our collections – everything from mummified crocodiles and their favourite, dinosaur dung!  The day ended on a high with a fantastic concert by all.  In the optional singing competition 1st prize went to St Michael & St John’s RCPS who sang a song from Mamma Mia, 2nd prize went to St  Bernard’s CPS who sang Year of Mercy with 3rd place going to an acapella performance of Stitches by St Wulstun’s RCPS.
