Stonyhurst gives students incredible opportunities within the Performing Arts. We offer a range of Drama courses and co-curricular activities, including lighting/sound training, and backstage/costume/make-up design.
The facilities at Stonyhurst College include the Academy Room, an historic, end on, proscenium arch theatre that seats over 350 people. Students use this space regularly when rehearsing and performing. The large scale production at the end of the Christmas term is a highlight of the department, and all College students have the opportunity to be involved in this.
Academically we offer GCSE Drama, A Level Theatre Studies and IB Theatre Arts, and these require skills in practical performance and the study of set works.
The department also offers, LAMDA Qualifications in Acting, a Drama Workshop with a variety of performance opportunities and a selection of theatre trips throughout the year.
St Mary’s Hall Drama
St Mary’s Hall has a modern, impressive 250 seat tiered Theatre, The Centenaries Theatre, which is used by students during their drama lessons and for regular performances and concerts. Every child takes part in a production here at least annually, and there are many opportunities for additional optional performances.
