Topical and always relevant, Economics continues to be highly regarded as an academic discipline. It provides a unique blend of the arts and the sciences and is fundamental to the understanding of the modern world.
The study of Economics helps students to understand economic concepts and theories, through a critical consideration of economic problems and issues that affect our everyday lives such as dealing with the current public sector debt, the obesity time bomb and the growth in air travel.
At Stonyhurst, we aim to tackle these issues as economists but are also mindful of the ethical and social implications of those economic decisions. We aim to help our students develop skills and capabilities that will help them in their adult and working lives. Most of our students go on to study economics based courses at University.
Our examination results in Economics are excellent, in 2015: 59% A*-A, whilst the national average was 31.6%. Furthermore 100% achieved A*-E.
