The study of English develops in students a high degree of cultural and aesthetic literacy, as well as sophisticated communication skills. Through exploring a wide range of literary and non-literary texts, students analyse and evaluate how language and context construct meaning. As well as offering a rigorous intellectual training, the subject aims to instill a lifelong enjoyment of English Language and Literature.
Throughout our English courses, we aim to develop our students’
- oral and written skills
- comprehension of literary and non-literary texts
- expression in a variety of different ways to suit different occasions
- awareness of language as a medium of communication
- abilities to relate to the historical, cultural and social contexts of texts
We help students to develop a sense of the purpose of a text and for whom it is intended as well as how they, as writers can control a reader’s response.
