Grammar and Syntax
In Grammar, students are introduced to the text book AQA GCSE German. Link to AQA website.
Context 1 covers the topic of Lifestyle and in the first term they will study the topics of health (including healthy eating, keeping fit, and the issues of smoking, drugs and alcohol), and on relationships and choices (including family, friends and marriage).
The main grammar points covered are: the present tense; using inversion; modal verbs; adjectives; negatives; using man and time phrases. The content of the course is taught through both traditional and more modern media, such as video clips, online learning, and the exercises using interactive whiteboard. In the autumn, we host an Exchange visit for students of our Jesuit partner school, Kolleg Sankt Blasien in the Black Forest, where our own exchange students will stay during their return visit the following summer.
Topics studied in Syntax include: home and local area, the environment, education and the world of work, identity and culture. Students work on the four language skill areas which will be tested in the GCSE exam: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course is assessed through four papers.
Paper 1: Listening: 45 minutes examination (35 minutes at Foundation Level). This is worth 25% of the GCSE.
Paper 2: Speaking. 10-12 minutes oral examination (7-9 minutes at Foundation Level). This is worth 25% of the GCSE.
Paper 3: Reading. 1 hour examination (45 minutes at Foundation Level). This is worth 25% of the GCSE.
