At Stonyhurst College, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) describes those areas of the curriculum, both inside and outside the classroom that deal with personal and social growth and development, health and wellbeing.
PSHE lessons, alongside the formal curriculum, Theology General, Retreats, the extra-curricular programme and pastoral care are designed to help students to discover and put into practice ways of achieving a state of well-being for themselves and to support others in doing so.
PSHE is therefore the planned provision for emotional and social development that provides continuity and progression, breadth and balance and takes into account the intellectual, physical, spiritual and emotional development of pupils at various stages of their life at Stonyhurst.
It helps pupils to develop a secure sense of identity and to function well in the world. It helps give pupils ‘the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become ‘informed, active, responsible citizens in a rapidly changing world’.
