| Freddie Liddell, Joe Garlington and Eleanor Lamb swam a mile across Lake Winderemere and raised over a thousand pounds for ‘Diabetes UK’ recently. “The water was absolutely freezing even with a wetsuit,” said Eleanor, “and the first fifty metres were the worst. I could see lots of fish beneath me which was weird, so I decided to do breast-stroke.” Mr Carl Riley, the Superintendent of the Stonyhurst Sports’ Club and master-in-charge of swimming also took part. “About 250 people were in each heat, so as we set off the water was crowded and quite choppy,” said Carl. “The organisation and the crowds supporting us were great; I’d definitely do it again.”
