Mary Ann plays on Radio 3
Mary Ann Wootton (a Syntaxian) took part in the BBC Pianothon this month and her playing was later selected for broadcast on Radio 3. She will take part in the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition in October.
The Pianothon took place in the Clothworkers Concert Hall at the University of Leeds and was an opportunity for amateur pianists to play to a large, enthusiastic audience. “It was a wonderful experience” said Mary Ann. “I played Bach’s Fantasia in C minor and afterwards met someone whose grandfather had also attended Stonyhurst so we talked about the school.”
Mary Ann played before the Queen and Prince Philip when she was 12 years old, when they visited Manchester for the Royal Maunday Service in the cathedral. “The Queen was interested to hear that I also play theatre organ as she likes that style of music”, said Mary Ann.
Mary Ann will be performing in the Headmaster’s Concert on November 13th at Stonyhurst College. Anyone interested in attending should telephone Reception on 01254 826345.
