This was the second leg of the seventh edition of the German exchange, the Stonyhurst group having spent a wonderful week in St. Blasien in April this year with 8 Lower Grammarians and 5 Grammarians. Some of the visitors had a taste of boarding life, while others stayed with the families of day pupils.
Herr Christian Schmieder (English and History) and Herr Clemens Steiger (Music and English) accompanied the German pupils as they spent a week at Stonyhurst. Herr Steiger, the Organist at St Blasien, played at our Sunday Mass, a good German tune of course!
There were day trips to York and Liverpool, and on other days the German pupils attended lessons with their exchange partners; they also took part in specially-arranged activities such as a walk around the Tolkein Trail with Mr David Knight, the College Archivist.
The exchange has both enabled and renewed the close contacts which both Stonyhurst and St. Blasien recognise to be so important. Rapidly bridging their linguistic and cultural differences the pupils quickly found friendship and much in common; as had been the case in April, no one wanted to say goodbye.
