Artist's visit
Art-pupils in Grammar and Rhetoric were visited by Gerry Davies, Head of Art at Lancaster University and a practising artist. He talked about his own work and ran workshops which explored drawing and the use of different inks on various surfaces.
“His most recent work develops the use of inks and materials in a very sophisticated way,” said Mrs Jo Robinson, who organised the visit. “We looked at his many sketchbooks, large illustrations produced on Mylar paper and his ‘Raft’ series: this explores what groups in society would save if they suddenly had to abandon their current lifestyle because of natural disasters. His work is quite figurative and tells stories.”
Pupils were inspired by Mr Davies’ visit and gained a great deal from his teaching.
