Higher Line reels!

High Line pupils celebrated (albeit a little belatedly) the birth of the Scottish poet Robert Burns at their very own Scottish-style Burns Night Ceilidh (pronounced KayLee) on Saturday.

The Higher Line Common Room was magically transformed to look exactly like a big drafty barn and a superb spread of haggis, Mars Bars (though not deep fried) shortbread and Irn Bru (apparently made with real girders) was laid on to keep everyone’s strength up.  With Mr Mann playing the accordion and Mrs Mann calling out the dances there was much hilarity as we learned which of our otherwise very intelligent Higher Line pupils don’t know their left from their right....All inhibitions were soon forgotten and we saw the most unlikely of dancing partners sweetly holding hands and skipping wildly along to the tunes (mentioning no names: Rahul Daswani and Nick Carollo). Guests included Mrs Wainwright, Mrs Eachus, Miss Young and even the Headmaster –though modesty prevailed and Mr Johnson declined our request to show us a few moves. The guest star was almost certainly Fr Twist who showed everyone up by dancing several dances in a row without pausing to take a single refreshing drop of Irn Bru!!   Thanks to Mr Callinicos, Mr Strain, Mrs Wainwright, Mrs Eachus, Miss Young, Fr Twist, Mr Johnson and of course most especially to Mr and Mrs Mann for giving up their Saturday night to play for us.
