Author visits Stonyhurst
Jason Wallace is the author of the novel 'Out of Shadows,’ which draws upon his knowledge and love of the country where he grew up, Zimbabwe. He has led a fascinating life that gives breadth and depths to his writing. Born in 1969, Jason lived in London for the early years of his life prior to his family started a new life in Zimbabwe where Jason attended what he describes as being a tough but excellent boarding school. A relative of J.R.R. Tolkein, Jason realised at the age of seventeen he wanted to be an author and since then has always written. Jason talked about his book and his experiences in a Zimbabwean boarding school, read a selection of passages and then answered questions. Lower Grammar and Grammar pupils clearly enjoyed reading ‘Out of Shadows’ which they found evocative and challenging. Set in Zimbabwe in the 1980s, the book starts as the war is over, when independence has been won and Robert Mugabe has come to power offering hope, land and freedom to black Africans. It is the end of the old way and the start of a promising new era.
