'Men and Women for Others' : In Practice
 |
| Caring |
'Men and Women for others' is far from a syrupy, trite slogan. Examples of Stonyhurst pupils and staff using their God-given talents to benefit those less fortunate can be found throughout the news section of this web site. Perhaps the best example of Stonyhurst men and women working for others is the inspirational work that takes place at the annual S.C.H.T Holiday Week.
The Stonyhurst Children's Holiday (S.C.H.T) Holiday Week takes place during the first week of the summer vacation and involves Stonyhurst Sixth Form pupils (Years 12 and 13) running a residential holiday week for children with disabilities from local special schools. Sixth Form pupils look after the children and give them a holiday of a lifetime. A full programme of the week's events, along with a selection of photographs from this year's Holiday Week, can be found below.
The Stonyhurst Children’s Holiday Trust (S.C.H.T.) was formed in 1972 and finances and runs the holiday week. Stonyhurst pupils raise funds throughout the year with various events such as the Poetry Banquet and the selling of Christmas cards. The Holiday Week is run by Sixth Form pupils, overseen by adult trustees.
The Trust’s mission is to enable Stonyhurst pupils to raise the necessary funds to finance, lead and run the holiday week, to ensure the welfare of the children whilst they are under the care of the Trust and to educate the pupils in the process of running a charity by developing their awareness and knowledge of how such organisations work.
The 2007 Holiday Week has just finished and there follows a selection of photographs. Further photographs can be found on the Pupil Resource area/Stonyhurst/SCHT/Holiday Week 2007/Digital photographs.

As one Sixth Former put it, "The Holiday Week is very satisfying, very fulfilling. The only reward that is really worth it is a smile on the child's face at the end of the day."
