County success for Stonyhurst’s U14 and U15 hockey teams

Stonyhurst’s U14 and U15 Hockey Teams headed for the seaside last week to take part in the Lancashire Schools’ County Hockey Tournament at Stanley Park, Blackpool.

Congratulations to the U14 hockey squad on winning the U14 championship.  In their first game, they drew against AKS 2-2. They followed this with 4 wins against Baines (15-0 although a 5 goal ceiling was put on reporting this match), Ripley St Thomas (2-0), Lytham (1-0) and Kirkham (1-0).   In total, in this round robin competition, they scored an impressive 21 goals and conceded only 2!  Very well done to all squad members.

Later that same week, the U15 squad made their way to the U15 version of this tournament to compete against 8 teams. Stonyhurst played their first match against Kirkham Grammar School and achieved a creditable draw.  This was then followed by a win against Heysham, thanks to a hat trick from Mollie Nuttall. The final match of the first round against AKS finished in a draw.  This meant that Stonyhurst went through to the next stage of the competition, along with Kirkham. In the second round of the competition Stonyhurst drew against Lytham and won against Ripley St Thomas but as Kirkham beat Lytham St Anne’s, this meant they were the overall tournament winners.
Both Stonyhurst teams played incredibly well throughout both tournaments and should be very proud of how hard they have worked. Particular congratulations to the U14 team and their continued trophy success as they also won the regional finals for the National Schools Hockey Championship earlier this year.
