Glass slippers to Ballet shoes

On Thursday 2nd March Stonyhurst took 19 students aged 6-13 to The Lowry, Manchester, to work alongside the Birmingham Royal Ballet. The day started with a backstage tour, where the pupils had the opportunity to see the costumes up close and ask the Company Manager lots of questions such as how long the company has to rehearse for a performance.

Our group then ventured into the auditorium to watch a short section of the warm up and company class, which gave the pupils insight into how professional dancers prepare for their performances.  Following this, we were whisked up to the dance studio to work alongside one of the ex professional dancers (Claire) and pianist (Elaine). The students loved taking part in the creative workshop as they were able to learn specific choreography from the Cinderella production and develop their own dance pieces. The performance of Cinderella captivated even our youngest members of the group with beautiful choreography and stunning costumes. What a thoroughly enjoyable way to introduce our youngest children to the world of live ballet.
