Mrs Jenny Shelley
Joined Stonyhurst in 2012
Mrs Shelley joined Stonyhurst as Head of Chemistry in September 2012. Before this she taught at Birkenhead High School. She enjoys seeing pupils fascinated by the sights (and smells!) of the various experiments that they do. Over the past year, she has particularly enjoyed starting the Higher Line Chemical Society, which creates opportunities for some of the Higher Line pupils to use advanced apparatus in good preparation for university Chemistry.
From school, she went up to Corpus Christi College at Oxford University, and graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree in Chemistry. She specialised in organic synthesis, completing a Master’s Degree investigating how synthetic methods used in the lab could mimic the actions of enzymes to produce biologically active compounds.
When she gets the opportunity she is to be found in the mountains with her walking boots on. As a teenager she benefitted from completing Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and since completing the Award herself she has gone on to lead many Dof E expeditions feeling immensely proud of the way that the students rise to the challenges they face and support each other even in horrible weather conditions.
