Mr Andy Walter
BA (Hons) PGCE
Joined Stonyhurst 2009

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Sports Studies in 1991 Andy completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, specialising in Physical Education. His first job was at Saffron Walden County High School near Cambridge, where he spent eight years teaching PE, developing the GCSE and A level programmes and running Rugby teams from Under 13 to 1st XV level.

Andy’s first Departmental Leadership role came at Tytherington High School, where the role of Head of Department expanded to Director of Sport encompassing the Sports College programme.

His involvement in the Sports College programme gave him an insight into PE for younger years, and, after starting his own family Andy became increasingly concerned with the under developed physical capability of children arriving at secondary school.

Andy was given his first opportunity to develop a younger years programme when he took up a post at Terra Nova School. He spent three years at Terra Nova before coming to St Mary’s Hall.

His sporting background is Rugby orientated and he played up to county standard. As injuries have taken their toll, he has turned his attention to sports with fewer collisions, including cycling and running and has competed in 10k runs, half marathons and triathlons.
