IB Students visit Leeds University

One of the great benefits of the IB Diploma programme is the opportunity to do independent research in producing an Extended Essay on a topic of interest.  This year, our Poets were invited to enter a competition to win a day of one to one support from an academic at Leeds University, together with the opportunity to spend a day in the University libraries.

Three of our Poets were selected to take part, with a diverse range of topics.  Elena Zukriegel is looking at the links between classical and jazz music, Wiebke Pfefferle is considering political rhetoric, with reference to Donald Trump, and Martyna Kasprzyk is developing her own experiment to investigate the solubility of phenols. The pupils found  discussions with their advisers invaluable, and Martyna found it a particularly rewarding experience as she won £25 of Amazon vouchers in a research skills exercise on the day!  We are grateful to Leeds University Education outreach team for hosting the day for us.
