Lambs Independent School Rugby Football Trials at SMH

Stonyhurst, St Mary’s Hall today hosted the The Independent Schools Rugby Football Club trials for the North of England, on what turned out to be a beautiful day.  Known as ‘The Lambs’  the ISRFC was set up in 2006 to provide representative rugby opportunities for talented young players where they did not exist before.  It culminates in the players potentially playing for the ‘Lambs XV’ more fully known as the English Independent Schools XV.

120 rugby players at U11 and U13 level represented around 20 schools from the whole region, as far afield as the Isle of Man, and of course including Stonyhurst.  Ethan Sam and Alex showed what they could do at U13 level, whilst Tom B, Tom C and Freddie gave their all at U11.  Well done to all the boys.  Our fantastic marketing prefects greeted the boys and their families upon arrival, and a number of these took advantage of the opportunity to have a tour of the College before watching the youngsters train and play in their matches.  An excellent standard of rugby was demonstrated and a very enjoyable day was experienced by all concerned.  Mr Walter, Head of Sport and Physical Education at SMH would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who was involved and helped to make the day such a success – the cleaning and catering staff in particular.
