Lancashire Cup Final
Southport Rugby Club was bathed in spring sunshine as the SMH 1st XV took the field in anticipation of a hard- fought final in the Lancashire Cup. Unmoved and unperturbed by vociferous opposition support or even by the clear Lancaster advantage in size and weight, the SMH team bit hard on their gum-shields and took the fight to their opponents. It proved to be a very even game, with most of the play between the two 10 metre lines, and it was a break-away try by Lancaster which finally decided the outcome. SMH came close to scoring on several occasions, but Lancaster’s sheer size managed to hold off their determined attacks. A very brave performance by the SMH 1st XV, who deserve many congratulations for their unceasing efforts throughout a very hard-fought match.
