SMH Sports Tour to Madrid

Forty three pupils and staff from Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall have recently returned from a successful and enjoyable sports tour to the beautiful city of Madrid. After tremendous seasons, the 1st XV Rugby and U13A Hockey squads tested themselves against international opposition. Bathed in glorious sunshine for the duration of the five day tour, both squads played three matches and sampled the sights and culture of Madrid. The 1st XV Rugby squad played against three big and robust sides from the district. Showing the resilience and quality demonstrated throughout the season, they managed to win all three of their matches.
The Under 13 Hockey squad faced opposition that oozed quality. Winning one of the three matches, the girls played ‘out of their skins’ in each game.
In a jam-packed itinerary, the cultural highlights included sightseeing, tasting tapas, a tour of the Bernabeu, a day at a theme park, karting and shopping. As usual, the pupils were a delight and acted as fantastic representatives of their school.
In the fundraising events prior to the tour departure, fantastic support from parents and friends of the school, as well as the pupils and staff, enabled the provision of funds for the tour and £1000 for Asthma UK. Very well done and thank you to everyone who was involved.
Mr A Walter
