Joe Ansbro, the  Scottish international and London Irish  rugby player, returned to his old school to open the new changing rooms at Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall. Joe was Captain of the St Mary’s Hall 1st XV in 1999, and  left the College in 2003 for Cambridge University, where he read Natural Sciences.

At the opening ceremony Joe said: “It’s great to be back at Stonyhurst. My rugby team here was invincible and won absolutely everything! I’m very impressed by this brilliant new facility.”

Mr Larry Crouch, Headmaster of Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall said: “The changing rooms are a very important place for the teams, because it’s where they discuss strategy and tactics, build each other up, celebrate and commiserate together.”

After Joe had unveiled a plaque the Captain of the St Mary’s Hall 1st XV, Sebastian Dean, presented him with the school tie. Everyone then attended Mass in the school chapel, giving thanks for sport, talents and teamwork.  After lunch Joe bravely played some cricket with SMH pupils, before being mobbed for autographs by his young fans!
