Hockey Tour to Portugal - Final Part
Mon Day 4
An early morning Surfing session was today’s activity, all girls and staff had a 2 hour session at a local beach. The girls had great fun and many were eventually able to stand up - even Miss Atherton, Mrs Watson and Mrs Luker!! This was followed by a delicious lunch at the nearby hippy 'Beach hut'
We made our nightly trip to Jamor sports institute for the B team Match v Belenenses, but unfortunately we lost 3-0.

Tues Day 5
Free time at the pool or beach followed by our usual lunch of toasties!!
The evening game was for the A team v Lisbon Casuals. We won 3-1 despite sustaining injuries to Claudia and Emily and also conceding a goal to be 1-0 down, and then a hat trick from Anne Marie Connolly saw them keep up their winning ways

Wed day 6
Mrs Luker and Mrs Watson were not looking forward to the activity this morning as past experiences from an unsuccessful dolphin watching trip in South Africa was still fresh in their memory!
All boarded for a 3 hour catamaran boat trip for the Dolphin watching at Setubal, happily they saw lots of dolphins, and continued to add to their tan! After leaving the boat all the girls and staff had lunch at a local restaurant.
The B team match versus Lisbon Select was the typical game of two halves with Stonyhurst starting the game half asleep and spending the majority of the first half defending. However, after half time the girls started to play as a team and push forward and Melissa Hartley scored a fantastic goal. Unfortunately they couldn’t capitalize on their chances and lost the game 2-1.

Thurs day 7
Relaxing day
Then Lucie Lloyds cinema birthday party to watch- Harry Potter in 3D - even better as it is released here a day earlier than in UK!!!! Popcorn, drinks and sweets were enjoyed by all.

Friday day 8
A welcome rest day from playing hockey. Late afternoon involved a sh0pping to Colombo shopping mall where the girls spent their money in the sales. This was followed by our evening meal at Hard Rock café. The girls had a great evening and it was a fitting end to a fantastic week.
Sat day 9
Final day. Just one match to play. Portugal no less! A great effort from both teams but sadly we were no match for an in form Portugal squad. A really good experience though. Our final evening meal was at the chicken Peri Peri restaurant and this was followed by presentation of awards. The players player award for the A team was shared between tour captain Jess Pye and influential midfielder Claudia Mastrobuoni. The players player award for the B team was given to the rock in defence Charlotte Kelly who had a fantastic tour. The player of the tour was presented to Jess Pye. This tour was the final time Jess played for Stonyhurst. Not only did she play fantastically all week on the pitch but equally off the pitch she has served as a great ambassador to Stonyhurst. Not only did she win Tour Player but was also ‘tanning of the blondes champion’ against Mrs Kay!!
