In the third week of term, Stonyhurst College’s newest pupils – Lower Grammar (which is year 9) – travelled to Kirkham for a spiritual retreat led by 10 Rhetoricians (students in year 13).

The sixth-form retreat leaders had undergone 8 hours of preparation for the retreat at the end of the summer term, under the direction of Mrs Mo Baldwin from ‘Supporting Spirituality’. Throughout the day, they led Lower Grammar through a series activities, reflections and prayer times centred upon the structure and meaning of the Mass. The Gospel reading, for example, included Jesus’ question to his disciples, “Who do you say I am?” and  Lower Grammar explored how they themselves would answer this question. The Offertory provided a focus for the unique gifts and talents each individual will bring to Stonyhurst, for which gift boxes were made.

Everyone enjoyed the space and time to consider their faith in such an engaging and varied way. Thanks go to Fr Twist, Miss Young and the retreat leaders who did such an excellent job: Yoann Belon, Asmita Chitnis, Alice Grout-Smith, Simone Masterson, Luke O’Gorman, Kimberley Onwu, Lizzie Robinson, David Seed, Callum Shaw and William Stuart-Mills.
