This year’s major production at Stonyhurst was ‘The Sound of Music’ by Rodgers and Hammerstein, which was performed 3 times to capacity audiences in the newly refurbished Academy Room.

Every aspect of the show was outstanding, reflecting many weeks of rehearsals, hard work and the sheer commitment of everyone involved. Solo and ensemble singing alike were excellent; Lara Schitto as Maria and Genevieve Turner as Mother Abbess are particularly worthy of mention for their exquisite performances of ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Climb Every Mountain’ (leaving many an audience member surreptitiously wiping away the odd tear!); the 7 von Trapp children made light work of some complex harmonies and cuckoo clock choreography – all supported by a superb orchestra of music scholars and their teachers.

At the final performance, tribute was paid to the talented army of people behind the scenes, and of course to the brilliant Miss Egar (Director) and Mr Mann (Musical Director).
