The Great North Swim

Miss Lane and Mrs Allanson took part in the Great North Swim in Lake Windermere on Sunday 24th June, Europe's biggest open-water swimming event. They did it to raise money for the Christie Hospital in Manchester, so that it can offer treatments not covered by the NHS and conduct cancer research; Stonyhurst teacher Mr Simon Waterhouse has been treated at the hospital.
In their first open-water swim, they joined thousands of people (including elite swimmers) in a bracing mile-long swim around Windermere. “The water temperature had fallen sharply because of the bad weather, so our main problem was the perishing cold” said Mrs Allanson.
