A Starfish and Sea Urchins!
The Hodder House playroom role-play is set up as a seaside this term. The topic began to catch the children's imagination and PP1 wanted to find out about different sea creatures. Mrs Gibson showed the class a selection of fancy shells and the children loved looking, touching and smelling them! In the collection were sea urchin tests and a starfish and PP1's homework was to find out about these 2 creatures. Many children found out lots of interesting facts that they enjoyed sharing, including some PowerPoint presentations. But you can imagine our surprise when, on Friday morning, Mr Booth brought in a box containing fresh starfish and sea urchins! The children looked carefully at the prickly sea urchins and, with Mrs Gibson's well hand protected, saw the five teeth on the underside. The starfish were not at all like the dried specimen we had seen the previous week. They were 'squidgy' and the children laughed at the feel of their tickly tube feet!
All in all we had a great, if a little smelly, day and PP1 were challenged to use their expressive language and investigative skills throughout the morning. Many thanks to Mr Booth for sourcing and bringing them into school.
