Sunshine at the Rugby 7s
Stonyhurst hosted its 23rd invitation Rugby 7s tournament yesterday in glorious sunshine. The magnificent weather was matched only by the high standard of play and skill shown by all the teams in the three age groups. The competitions were for Seniors, U16 and U11s.
The Stonyhurst teams competed with great tenacity and commitment and were a true credit to the school. The Seniors battled through to the quarter-finals to be beaten by a strong Oratory side. Giggleswick school were the eventual winners of the Senior tournament. The U16s reached the semi-finals of their tournament only to be beaten by the eventual winners, Kirkham Grammar School. The U11s St Mary's Hall team also did very well, winning their Plate competition; the Oratory Prep School won.
"It was a great rugby day for the 500 players and large number of spectators," said Mr Simon Charles, the Director of Sport, "and was only made possible by the dedication of the many referees, team coaches and helpers whose expertise made this such a fantastic school event."
