English Speaking Day
Thursday saw our annual competition for the Eileen Clews Trophy for Poetry Recital. This year's final was judged by Dr. Paul Ellis, Head of English at Stonyhurst College. He introduced himself by explaining that thirty years ago, he had been taught by Eileen Clews herself at St. Mary's Hall.

The winners of this year's trophy were Ben and Chidiebere for their rambunctious performance of The Dragon Who Ate Our School. Others winners were Oliver and Sebastian and Ines, for their solos, and Felix and Luke for their paired recital.

The afternoon was concluded by two debates. The debating club proposed that Zoos are cruel and unnecessary and the scholarship class proposed that Smoking in the UK should be totally banned.
Both debates were won by the opposers.
