Royal Wedding celebrations!

The wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton was celebrated with a special programme at Stonyhurst on Friday 29th April. The day began with the opening Mass of the summer term, which was based on the theme of marriage. In the Assembly which followed, pupils watched archive footage of Her Majesty the Queen’s visit to Stonyhurst in 1990; they then enjoyed a debate between monarchist, Fabian Twist and republican, Aileen Rice-Jones, who both presented their points of view with skill and humour.
The wedding itself was watched in Playrooms, accompanied by plenty of enthusiastic commentary, whilst those less interested took part in a 5-a-side football tournament! A special lunch was then enjoyed in a refectory festooned with patriotic bunting.
Playrooms then embarked upon walks of varying lengths and gradients in the local countryside before returning for a barbecue outside the glass doors. The day’s celebrations were rounded off with a concert in the Ambulacrum, whose eclectic programme demonstrated the wealth of talent amongst pupils and staff at the College. A very happy and hopefully memorable day was enjoyed by all!
