An SMH day
Day pupils and boarders are completely integrated at SMH.
Pupils arrive from 8am – the same time that the boarders are finishing breakfast – and thereafter all embark on the same programme of lessons, sport and activities. Safety is of paramount importance – children’s attendance in and out is recorded by fingerprint registration.
Day parent are free to decide to what extent they want their children to enjoy the boarding experience with a series of pick up times between 4pm and 7pm depending upon whether their child partakes in one of the many after school activities on offer, or stays on with the boarders for tea and supervised studies. Although we do not offer regular flexi-boarding day parents can also ask for occasional boarding for a charge.
A typical day will be a mixture of academic, sporting and extra curricular activities. Older children are streamed according to ability and we offer children learning support should they need extra assistance. We also track and monitor children’s progress to ensure they are getting everything they need from their education. Where children are particularly gifted in an area we make sure they are stretched to realise their potential. Our school timetable is age appropriate and the curriculum deepens as children get older. We have French and Spanish for all pupils and in Year 4 children are offered tuition on a musical instrument for one term for free. In Year 7 children start learning Latin.
