Entry Requirements
In order to gain entry to either Stonyhurst College or Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall we request that parents provide us with their son or daughter’s two most recent school reports and a reference from their existing school.
Pupils wishing to attend Stonyhurst or its prep school are usually required to complete entry assessments (with the exception of Hodder House, our pre-prep department).
Those intending to join in years 7 (Figures), 9 (Lower Grammar), 10 (Grammar) and 12 (Poetry) are required to sit an entrance exam.
Overseas students are required to complete an entrance exam as well as a 500 word handwritten essay in English, outlining why they want to come to Stonyhurst College or Stonyhurst St Marys Hall.
The assessments can usually take place at the pupil’s current school, with the exception of Scholarship examinations, but arrangements must be made through the Admissions Office. All exams must be completed in timed conditions to ensure fairness and accuracy. (Some tests will be used in determining which ability stream children will be placed in.)
Any child wishing to take the scholarship exam will be required to sit an additional exam. For further details please see the Scholarship section.
