Entry to Oxford and Cambridge: in recent years between 5% and 10% of our leavers have gained places at Oxford or Cambridge.
University destinations: each year nearly all our leavers go on from Stonyhurst to university. The main universities to which Stonyhurst boys and girls have gone in the past few years in addition to Oxford and Cambridge are: Bristol, Leeds, Durham, Manchester, King’s London, St Andrews, Queen Mary College London, Warwick, Brunel, Edinburgh, Bath, Imperial College London, Liverpool, Newcastle, Exeter, London School of Economics and Leicester. About 5 students a year apply to US universities and, in recent years, a few have also left for European universities.
Degree Courses: the degree courses being followed reflect the breadth of a Stonyhurst education: Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Economics, Law, Modern Languages, Classics, Theology, Natural Sciences, Architecture, Psychology, Mathematics, Graphic Design, English, Business Studies, Biology, Civil Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Dentistry, Accounting/Finance and Media Arts.
Value Added: Along with most indepenedent schools we subscribe to the University of Durham's Added Value scheme (ALIS). This shows that Stonyhurst's added value at A level is regularly among the top 25% of independent schools in the UK.
Tutors, Small Classes, Target Grades and Interim Reports: on arrival every pupil has a personal Tutor who meets with him/her on a weekly basis to advise, review progress and motivate. Tutors regularly hold one to one meetings with their tutees. Allied to our small class sizes and the setting of target grades for pupils, the Tutor system ensures that careful monitoring and care take place throughout a pupil’s time at the College. A system of regular interim reports throughout the term ensures that parents are kept fully informed of progress and any potential academic challenges ahead.
