The Department aims to:

Art at Stonyhurst
Art and Design play an important part in the curriculum by developing the pupils' ability to appreciate the visual world around them, to think creatively and constructively about visual problems, and to communicate their ideas successfully through a variety of media, from painting and drawing to ceramics, sculpture and printmaking. Pupils are continually encouraged to review their own work in relation to that of other artists, craftsman and cultures.
Lower Grammar (Year 9)
The programme of Study sets out to follow the National Curriculum Key Stage 3.
GCSE Course (Year 10 & 11)
The Specification followed at GCSE is AQA (Specification A) 1191 General Art and Design.
The course is carefully structured into components that range from three or four weeks to a full school term. They include: Skills in Drawing and Painting, Ceramic Design, Sculpture Printmaking and Graphic Design. The production of coursework for the pupils' portfolios is a major focus, throughout the two years.
AS / A2 Course (Year 12 & 13)
The Specification followed at GCE is OCR 3801 (AS) and 7801 (A2) Art and Design.
Candidates take three units of study at AS: Coursework, Personal Investigation and Controlled Assignment.
