Clubs & Speakers

From debating, politics, philosophy, astronomy, engineering and environmental societies, through book and chess clubs, to computer programming and robotics workshops, and separate magazines for economics, history and creative writing, your child is bound to find peers who share his or her passion.

Our enthusiastic special interest groups dovetail with our academic curriculum to arrange an exciting programme of visiting speakers. These events are often open to our wider community and in the past have included scientists Professor Lord Robert Winston, Professor Jim Al-Khalili OBE, Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE, linguist Professor David Crystal OBE, literary critic Professor Terry Eagleton, and historian Professor Lord Hennessey.

Group trips also offer fascinating insights and inspiration for our clubs and societies and have included visits to the Houses of Parliament, the Tate Gallery, and Oxford University.

Talks, visits and workshops provide a wealth of new experiences to supplement the rich variety of clubs on offer in any given term.

If a club or society doesn’t exist yet at Stonyhurst, we encourage like-minded students, with the support of the school, to form their own.
