Music plays an important part in the life of Stonyhurst College. Many pupils play or sing in our choirs and instrumental ensembles and receive tuition each week.
Concerts and numerous other performance opportunities enable musicians of all ages and abilities to grow in confidence.
The College Choir rehearses twice a week in St Peter’s Church and sings at Mass every Sunday. Entry to our selective Schola Cantorum is by audition and this choir rehearses several times each week in the Top Refectory. Both choirs sing at feast days and concerts.
Entry to both the College Orchestra and College String Orchestra is from approximately grade 3 and above. Each orchestra rehearses weekly in the Orchestra Room and performs in termly concerts.
Entry to the College Big Band is approximately grade 5 and above. Rehearsals are in the Orchestra Room weekly with performances in termly concerts and the local area with opportunities for international tours.
Entry to the College Flute Ensemble, Brass Ensemble and Clarinet Ensemble is by audition with the relevant teacher. Each ensemble rehearses once a week and performs in termly concerts.
Individual lessons are available for string, wind, brass and percussion instruments, classical and electric guitar, drum kit and singing. Pupils can work towards Associated Board Grade 5 Theory.
