The Director General of the BBC recommitted the organisation to religious broadcasting. Speaking at the Churches’ Media Conference, Mark Thompson also said he was looking at creative ways in which religion could be incorporated into other programmes. A practising Catholic, Mr Thompson was, unusually, sporting a tie – an Old Stonyhurst tie. He was a pupil at the College from 1970 to 1975. After his address at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick in Derbyshire, he was presented with a Stonyhurst plaque by Fr Denis Blackledge SJ, Father Superior and Chaplain at the College. The Churches’ Media Conference is designed specifically for all Christians involved with the media, such as media professionals, volunteers and students involved in the production and presentation of religious material.
