SMH Christmas celebrations

The last weekend of term was an extremely busy time at SMH. It began with the Hodder House nativity play – ‘Census Sums’ – on Friday afternoon, and was immediately followed by the Christmas Concert; the junior and senior string groups, brass ensemble, wind band and soloists performed a wide range of music  including arrangements of Christmas carols. On Saturday morning, Elements took to the stage to perform their pantomime – Rumpled Beauty. It was then time for the Christmas Fair, which raised an impressive £2,050 for the SMH charity, Children for children! The day continued with parents’ consultations and the interline swimming gala, concluding with carol-singing, mulled wine and mince pies in the Refectory.

On Sunday, the whole school and parents gathered in St Peter’s Church for Mass, celebrated by Fr Peter Griffiths SJ; the choir led the singing, and sang The Angel Gabriel during communion. Interline sport followed and everyone was more than ready for the Boarders’ Christmas Lunch at 1pm.

The term concluded with a beautiful carol service, also in St Peter’s. Readings by pupils and staff were interspersed with carols sung by the congregation and choirs. Hodder House gave a delightful performance of ‘Angels'; the Prep and Elements Choir sang the German lullaby Still, still, still, followed by Carter’s lively setting of The Holly and the Ivy. Elements sang Noel nouvelet and the Figures and Rudiments Choir sang arrangements of I saw three ships and Ding dong! Merrily on High with energy and conviction.

We wish all SMH pupils and staff a very happy and peaceful Christmas!
