South Africa Rugby Tour 2013

Wednesday 03 July

Depart Stonyhurst. Overnight flight to Johannesburg

Thursday 04 July

Arrive Johannesburg. Tour of the Sterfontein Caves. Arrive Konka Camp, near Rustenburg.

Friday 05 July

Visit Sun City – this includes the ‘Valley of the Waves’ waterpark, with its large lagoon, wave machine and flume rides. Training at Konka Camp.

Saturday 06 July

First match: Stonyhurst College v Matlosana Community XV

Watch Currie Cup game: Leopards v Valke

Sunday 07 July

Magaliesburg Canopy Tour. 11 platforms have been constructed high against the rock faces of the spectacular Ysterhout Kloof, joined by 10 cabled slides up to 140 metres long and up to 30 metres above the canopy floor.

Arrive Mabula Game Lodge – accommodation in ensuite air-conditioned thatched chalets in a scenic natural setting. This 12,000-hectare reserve is home to an abundance of animal bird life; the 75 mammal species include big game such as elephant, lion, white and black rhino, hippo, leopard and buffalo.

Evening escorted game drive to see the ‘Big Five’ – lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino.

Monday 08 July

Early morning game drive. Rest of the day free to enjoy further activities, such as horseback safaris and  guided  bush walks.

Tuesday 09 July

Early morning game drive.

Depart for Greater Pretoria area.

Second match: Stonyhurst College v Harlequins RFC

Wednesday 10  July

Transfer to Johannesburg Airport for flight to Cape Town.

Transfer to the Goedgedacht Trust near Malmesbury, a rural development centre set up to help the children of local farm workers.

Thursday 11 July

Help with the Goedgedacht After School Support Programme.

Third match: Stonyhurst College v Strand  High  School

Friday 12 July

Coaching session with Jacques Hanekom of the Western Province Rugby Institute.

Transfer to Stellenbosch.

Saturday 13 July

Fourth match: Stonyhurst College v Swartland High School

Transfer to Hermanus, a popular seaside resort where whales can be viewed,swimming close to shore.

Sunday 14 July

Whale watching from cliff paths.

Shark diving at Dyer Island, off the coast from Gansbaai.

Return to Cape Town.

Monday 15 July

Tour of the Cape Peninsula. Boat trip to Duiker Island Seal Colony. Visit Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet, and Boulders Beach, which is home to a colony of the endangered African Penguin.

Tuesday 16 July

Travel by cable car to the top of Table Mountain.

Sightseeing in the oldest part of Cape Town’s harbour.

Fifth match: Stonyhurst College v Wynberg BHS

Wednesday 17 July

Robben Island Tour.

Surf lesson at Muizenberg Beach.

Thursday 18th July

Return flight to Heathrow.

Friday 19th July

0640 hrs Arrive London Heathrow Airport.

Approximate arrival time at Stonyhurst 1300 hrs.
