Visit From St John’s Beaumont

It was a pleasure to  welcome 51 pupils and accompanying staff from St John’s Beaumont prep school who visited us on Friday and Saturday last week.  The boys arrived in time to settle in to their host dormitories at SMH, LG and in Avenue Farmhouse, before returning for a closely fought swimming gala, where Saint Mary’s Hall proved victorious, followed by tea in the New Ref.  The evening continued with a wonderful concert in the Top Ref.  There were a number of truly excellent solo performances from pupils representing both SJB and Stonyhurst before the marvellous Big Band treated us to a rousing finale.  Whilst the boys headed off to bed, SJB parents and staff enjoyed a buffet supper in the Bayley room.

Saturday morning started bright and early with Mass in the College chapel. It was a wonderful celebration with accompanying music performed by a joint choir from both schools.  Some visiting parents then took the opportunity to tour the College and look at some of the wonderful and extraordinary books and objects in our Stonyhurst collections.  The U11  SJB pupils enjoyed a Forensic Science Workshop whilst the U13s were treated to a Linguistics class in the audio visual room.  Classes continued as usual for the SMH pupils until it was time for sporting competitiveness once again.  SJB defeated SMH in the rugby, before a delicious lunch at the end of a busy and fun weekend programme for both schools.
