On Thursday 15th September Stonyhurst dancers (aged 10-17yrs) embarked upon a whirlwind dance experience with the Birmingham Royal Ballet. The afternoon started with a creative dance workshop looking at various aspects of putting together a piece of Shakespeare choreography, with a focus on the ‘Dream bill’ that our students were to watch that evening. Josh Tuifua a former soloist of the Royal Ballet led the workshop.

As the day unfolded students delved into the world of being a dancer and to link the work that they have been doing in dance class with professional performances. In the afternoon the students took a tour backstage where they had the chance to see the other layers of life on stage looking at the wigs and costumes department and then moving on to makeup meeting one of the artists from the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

The day concluded with them watching the evening performance which consisted of 3 separate pieces inspired by Sonnets –Wink (a contemporary piece), Othello – The Moor’s Pavane and A Midsummer Night’s Dream – The Dream.
