The final date for residential bookings is 6 weeks before the start of the summer programme – Friday 31st May 2024.

We will accept late bookings if there is availability.

After you have sent the enquiry form and we have approved your booking, we will send you a link to make the booking. On the completion of the online booking form you will be prompted to make the payment for the full amount of the course. We use a booking platform called ‘Flywire’.

‘Flywire’ is a global payment and billing solution that simplifies and streamlines cross border transactions for individuals, businesses and educational institutions.

Alternatively, we can accept BACs transfer. Please email us at summerschool@stonyhurst.ac.uk to request the details.

For non-residential courses, simply select your course on the website and complete the booking form. You will be asked to fill in your details and will be directed to a payment platform. Once the payment has been made, you will receive a booking confirmation email.

For residential courses you will need to complete and submit the online enquiry form and select your preferred course. We will then contact you to advise if we have availability and, if so, will send you a full application pack and direct you to our booking platform.

The full fees must be paid in advance to confirm the booking.

Whilst every effort is made to limit the costs incurred by cancellation, the following maximum scale of charges will apply to persons withdrawing from a course for whatever reason after the deposit has been paid. However, if you have to cancel the course for a reason covered by the insurance policy, then you may be able to claim for a reimbursement of prepaid course fees.

• Notification of cancellation in writing received on or prior to Friday 31st May 2024 (Course Date starting Friday 12th July and Friday 26th July 2024).

Stonyhurst College retains deposit only (£500 per student).

• Notification of cancellation in writing received between Saturday 1st June – Thursday 13th June 2024 inclusive (Course Date starting Friday 12th July and Friday 26th July 2024):

Stonyhurst College retains 50% of the total course fee.

• Notification of cancellation in writing received on or after Friday 14th June 2024 (Course Date starting Friday 12th July and Friday 26th July 2024):

Stonyhurst College retains 100% of the total course fee.

Most of our activities are provided on campus. Any activities organised off campus are always appropriately supervised.

Yes. All of the activities we offer as part of the Summer Language School are included within the price.

Yes, during our residential and non-residential courses, there is 1 half-day and 1 full-day excursion per week included in the course’s fees.

No. Most excursions take place in the local region within a 60 mile / 90-kilometre radius and are designed to give the students experience of different aspects of British life and culture.

All our residential students MUST arrive on the day the course starts and depart on the date that the course ends. Arriving outside of your allocated dates will result in additional charges.

For International students’ flights should arrive into Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds Bradford Airport between 07:00h – 19:00h in order to receive free airport transfers. On arrivals day there will be a programme of familiarisation, introductions and games in the afternoon and evening.

All our residential students MUST depart on the date that the course ends. Departing outside of your allocated date will result in additional charges.

Residential Departure Dates:

• Friday 26th July 2024
• Friday 2nd August 2024
• Friday 9th August 2024

For International students’ flights should depart from Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds Bradford Airport between 07:00h – 19:00h, which will allow sufficient time for the journey and check-in process.

For our residential students, we offer free escorted transfers to and from Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds Bradford airport, provided your child arrives and departs between the times specified above. Please note that if your child arrives outside of these designated times, a charge will be incurred to cover the cost of transportation and staff. If you prefer, we can also arrange escorted transfers to and from local rail or coach stations, such as Preston or Blackburn, Lancashire.

We can still arrange for someone to transfer your child from to/from the school but we will make a charge for this service to cover the cost of the transport and staff. If you have any additional questions or concerns about arrivals and departures, please contact us via e-mail at summerschool@stonyhurst.ac.uk.

There will be notice boards which will be updated on a daily basis informing you what activities are taking place, where and when.

Please do not bring any cash and we advise that you bring a travel card in order to make payments, this can be kept in our school bank or kept on the students person. We suggest that £50 - £100 per week is sufficient. We will also provide a secure place for you to keep any valuables. Stonyhurst cannot be held responsible for the loss of any valuables that have not been declared and handed in to the school bank. You will be able to go to the school bank to obtain your valuables at any time

All members of staff are there to help you, this will be explained during the Induction.

No, students can only leave the campus to take part in organised activities or excursions. You would have to obtain permission from the Course Director for any other reason.

You will be taken on a tour of the building and the facilities on the day of your arrival and provided with a map in your student handbook.

You will go to the Language School office to see if it is there. If not, you will report the loss to the member of staff on duty in the office or to your tutor or coach.

You will be able to use your mobile phone, but not during lessons or activity times. WIFI is available throughout the building. There will also be a landline available.

We do not allow students to bring laptop computers to the school – there is an IT suite where there are plenty of laptops and tablets available for students to use free of charge. We do allow students to bring their mobile phones to the school and these will be held by the staff for safekeeping if you wish. Use of mobile phones will be restricted to certain times of the day, when it is appropriate.

The only time the school would contact parents about their child once the course has started, would be in the event of a medical emergency or persistent/serious poor behaviour.

The Summer School staff will carry ID badges and wear distinctive Stonyhurst Summer School clothing.

Yes. Students can choose from a selection of three main meals cooked by our kitchens and served in the Dining Room every day. We actively encourage healthy eating and attending mealtimes is compulsory. Please advise any dietary requirements in advance of attendance.

Unfortunately, we do not provide this service at present.

Yes, we can cater for special diets but we need to know beforehand to ensure that we can provide the appropriate food. This should form part of your medical information which will be included in the booking form.

Yes, it is possible that more than one student will have the same type / colour of garment.

Yes. This is once or twice weekly depending on the length of stay, for all residential students and includes a weekly bedding change.

The completion of medical details is crucial to your child’s safety, and we reserve the right to cancel any booking if this is not received 6 weeks prior to the start of the course. Any medication that your child brings with them will be taken into safe keeping upon their arrival at the School (excluding emergency items such as inhaler, EpiPen, etc.) In case of medical or other emergency, Stonyhurst will be authorised to act in loco parentis.
The school will require a care plan from the parents for any students with severe medical conditions.

We would prefer you not to bring any non-essential medication to Stonyhurst since our school nurse is able to provide the appropriate medication if the need arises.

Tell one of your teachers or activity leaders who will then direct you to the office and send someone with you if necessary. If the problem occurs during the night, you should speak to the member of staff on duty. Healthcare is provided by the College, where we offer a daily surgery attended by a registered nurse, in addition to fully qualified first-aiders on site 24/7.

There are two minor injury drop-in centres close by and we also have a local health centre and dentist in Clitheroe (10 minutes drive) and several hospitals within easy reach, if the need arises.

Students who come from a country that has a reciprocal health agreement with the UK will be entitled to free medical consultation but may need to present an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card). If you have an EHIC, we would recommend you bring this with you when you travel to the UK. Please note, the EHIC is NOT an alternative to medical/travel insurance and all the students will require private health insurance, that covers the duration of the trip.

There are some situations which are not covered. These generally involve anything the student already knows about. The most significant exclusions of the policy are set out below.

• Cover for treatment that is known to be required at the time of departure
• The insured person must not be travelling against medical advice or for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment.
• Medical expenses in country of domicile
• Unattended valuable unless suitably locked away
• Losses not reported to the Police
• Regulations or order made by any Public Authority or Government.

EU and EEA students and students from many other countries can travel to the UK without a visa and study for up to 6 months. The only change is that all students need a valid passport to travel to the UK and can no longer enter the country with a National Identity Card.

Certain nationalities that previously required a Study Visa, such as Chinese nationals, can now study on a Standard Visitor Visa for up to 6 months.

No. From January 1st 2021, a European National will be able to enter the UK as a “Visitor” to study in the UK for a period of up to 6 months. No prior immigration permission is required before you travel. The only change is that all students need a passport to travel and can no longer enter the UK with a National Identity Card.

No, entry via the Visitor Route is free of charge.

European Nationals are permitted entry into the UK through the e-gate system. As such, you will not be asked to show any documentation upon arrival into the UK other than your passport.

However, if the e-gate system is not working, and you are questioned by an Immigration Officer, it is recommended that students travel with the following documents in their possession:

• Valid passport for the duration of your stay in the UK.
• Letter from the school confirming acceptance onto a course of study in the UK for no longer than 6 months.
• If under the age of 18 years, a letter from your parents consenting to; travel arrangements, confirmation of where the child will study, accommodation arrangements and financial support.
• Departure ticket dated within 6 months of first date of entry.
• Evidence of private medical insurance.

Yes, we provide all of our students with a letter to have with them whilst they travel, to confirm their booking on the course, duration of their stay and the accommodation and teaching arrangements.

No, “Visitors” are not required to pay the charge.

We are pleased to be able to provide small class sizes to aid learning.

Yes, we will be providing 5 levels of teaching to cover a wide range of abilities.

Yes, they will all have the relevant qualifications.
