The final date for residential bookings is 6 weeks before the start of the summer programme – Friday 30th May 2025.

We may accept late bookings if there is availability.

Please submit all details required on the enquiry form on our website (you can apply here - please note bookings will open very soon). We will then approve your booking based on our course availability. Once approved, you will be directed via email to create an account on My School Portal.

Upon logging into your My School Portal account, you will be required to complete the registration form and medical form on your My School Portal dashboard. To complete the booking, you will be required to make a non-refundable £500 deposit via Flywire, our preferred bookings and payment partner, which will be linked to the registration form. Once payment and the completed forms are received, we will confirm your booking.

On completion of the registration form and medical form, you will be prompted to make the payment for the deposit/full amount of the course (based on when booking takes place) via a link to 'Flywire' on the registration form. We use a booking platform called ‘Flywire’ .

‘Flywire’ is a global payment and billing solution that simplifies and streamlines cross border transactions for individuals, businesses and educational institutions.

Alternatively, we can accept BACs transfer. Please email us at summerschool@stonyhurst.ac.uk to request the details. Please ensure that all communications regarding payment come from our official channels. If you spot any suspicious behaviour, please contact us directly via phone on +44 (0)1254 827270 so we can confirm the communications are correct.

The balance of the fees must be paid no later than 6 weeks prior to the commencement of the course to confirm the booking.

Whilst every effort is made to limit the costs incurred by cancellation, the following maximum scale of charges will apply to persons withdrawing from a course for whatever reason after the deposit has been paid. However, if you have to cancel the course for a reason covered by the insurance policy, then you may be able to claim for a reimbursement of prepaid course fees.

• Notification of cancellation in writing received on or prior to Friday 30^th May 2025 (Course Date starting Friday 11th July and Friday 25th July 2025).

                Stonyhurst College retains deposit only (£500 per student).

•  Notification of cancellation in writing received between Saturday 31^st May – Thursday 12th June 2025 inclusive (Course Date starting Friday 11th July and Friday 25th July 2025):

                Stonyhurst College retains 50% of the total course fee.

•  Notification of cancellation in writing received on or after Friday 13th June 2025 (Course Date starting Friday 11th July and Friday 25th July 2025):

                Stonyhurst College retains 100% of the total course fee.

*Exceptions to these cancellation rules apply if a visa application is rejected and we receive written evidence at least 14 days prior to the start of the course, then we will refund the fees received in full. 

Where we receive this evidence, the refund will be paid to you within four weeks of you providing us with bank details and signed authorisation that the refund should be paid to that account.  If written evidence of a refusal is received less than 14 days prior to the start of the course, then the refund will be paid less an administrative fee of £100.

Most are provided on campus with the exception of any walks (which are always supervised) and the occasional activity which is provided by an external professional coach or teacher such as golf lessons.

Yes. Even specialist coaching will be included in this year’s fees.

Yes, there is 1 half-day and 1 full-day excursion per week included in the course’s fees.

No. Most excursions take place in the local region within a 60 mile / 90-kilometre radius and are designed to give the students experience of different aspects of British life and culture.

All our residential students MUST arrive on the day the course starts.

All our residential students MUST depart on the date that the course ends.

• Friday 8th August 2025

IMPORTANT NOTE: Outside of these times, there will be a charge of £120 each way, to cover the cost of the transport and staff.

 Direct departures must be collected from the College between 9am and 12noon on day of departure

For our residential students, we offer free escorted transfers to and from Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds Bradford airport, provided your child arrives and departs between the times specified above. Please note that if your child arrives outside of these designated times, a charge will be incurred to cover the cost of transportation and staff. If you prefer, we can also arrange escorted transfers to and from local rail  stations listed below:

•  Preston Train Station
• Manchester Piccadilly Train Station

We can still arrange for someone to transfer your child to/from the school, but we will make a charge for this service to cover the cost of the transport and staff. There will be notice boards which will be updated on a daily basis informing you what activities are taking place, where and when.

If your child would like to make personal purchases, they will need a prepaid currency or debit card designed for juniors. Stonyhurst Language School operates a cashless campus for administrative and security reasons. With more places in the UK going cashless, a prepaid card is useful for buying souvenirs. Cards linked to an app or online account let parents monitor spending, add funds, and freeze or cancel the card if lost. Please note, we cannot accept cash.

We would recommend between £50-£100 per week on a pre-paid travel card to cover any shopping trips included in the excursion programme.

All members of staff are there to help you, but if possible, you should contact the Head of Pastoral Care. This will be explained during the Induction.

No, students can only leave the campus to take part in organised activities or excursions. You would have to obtain permission from the Commercial Director for any other reason.

You will be taken on a tour of the building and the facilities on the day of your arrival and provided with a map in your student handbook.

You will go to the Language School office to see if it is there. If not, you will report the loss to the member of staff on duty in the office or to your tutor.

You will be able to use your mobile phone, but not during lessons or activity times. WIFI is available throughout the building. There will also be a landline available.

We do not allow students to bring laptop computers to the school – there is an IT suite where there are plenty of laptops and tablets available for students to use free of charge. We do allow students to bring their mobile phones to the school and these will be held by the staff for safekeeping if you wish. Use of mobile phones will be restricted to certain times of the day, when it is appropriate.

The only time the school would contact parents about their child once the course has started, would be in the event of a medical emergency or persistent/serious poor behaviour.

The Summer School staff will carry ID badges and wear distinctive Stonyhurst Language School clothing.

Yes. Students can choose from a selection of three main meals cooked by our kitchens and served in the Dining Room every day. We actively encourage healthy eating and attending mealtimes is compulsory. Please advise any dietary requirements in advance of attendance.

Unfortunately, we do not provide this service at present.

Yes, we can cater for special diets but we need to know beforehand to ensure that we can provide the appropriate food. This should form part of your medical information which will be included in the Medical Form.

Yes, it is possible that more than one student will have the same type / colour of garment.

Yes. This is once or twice weekly depending on the length of stay, for all residential students and includes a weekly bedding change.

The completion of medical details is crucial to your child’s safety and we reserve the right to cancel any booking if this is not received 6 weeks prior to the start of the Language School. Any medication that your child brings with them will be taken into safe keeping upon their arrival at the College (excluding emergency items such as inhaler, Autoinjectors, etc.) In case of medical or other emergency, Stonyhurst Language School will be authorized to act in loco parentis.

The school will require a care plan, written in English, from the parents for any students with severe medical conditions.

We would prefer you not to bring any non-essential medication to Stonyhurst since our school nurse is able to provide the appropriate medication if the need arises.

Tell one of your teachers or activity leaders who will then direct you to the office and send someone with you if necessary. If the problem occurs during the night, you should speak to the member of staff on duty. Healthcare is provided by the College, where we offer a daily surgery attended by a registered nurse, in addition to fully qualified first-aiders on site 24/7.

There are two minor injury drop-in centres close by and we also have a local health centre and dentist in Clitheroe (10 minutes drive) and several hospitals within easy reach, if the need arises.

Students who come from a country that has a reciprocal health agreement with the UK will be entitled to free medical consultation but may need to present an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card). If you have an EHIC, we would recommend you bring this with you when you travel to the UK. Please note, the EHIC is NOT an alternative to medical/travel insurance and all the students will require private insurance cover.

A summary of insurance cover will be provided very soon. 

There are some situations which are not covered. These generally involve anything the student already knows about. The most significant exclusions of the policy are set out below.

• Cover for treatment that is known to be required at the time of departure
• The insured person must not be travelling against medical advice or for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment.
• Medical expenses in country of domicile
• Unattended valuable unless suitably locked away
• Losses not reported to the Police
• Regulations or order made by any Public Authority or Government.

We do recommend that you arrange your own separate travel insurance.

EU and EEA students and students from many other countries can travel to the UK without a visa and study for up to 6 months. The only change is that all students need a valid passport to travel to the UK and can no longer enter the country with a National Identity Card.

Certain nationalities that previously required a Study Visa, such as Chinese nationals, can now study on a Standard Visitor Visa.

No. From January 1st 2021, a European National will be able to enter the UK as a “Visitor” to study in the UK for a period of up to 6 months. No prior immigration permission is required before you travel. The only change is that all students need a passport to travel and can no longer enter the UK with a National Identity Card.

No, entry via the Visitor Route is free of charge.

European Nationals are permitted entry into the UK through the e-gate system. As such, you will not be asked to show any documentation upon arrival into the UK other than your passport.

However, if the e-gate system is not working, and you are questioned by an Immigration Officer, it is recommended that students travel with the following documents in their possession:

• Valid passport for the duration of your stay in the UK.
• Letter from the school confirming acceptance onto a course of study in the UK for no longer than 6 months.
• If under the age of 18 years, a letter from your parents consenting to; travel arrangements, confirmation of where the child will study, accommodation arrangements and financial support.
• Departure ticket dated within 6 months of first date of entry.
• Evidence of private medical insurance.

Yes, we provide all of our students with a letter to have with them whilst they travel, to confirm their booking on the course, duration of their stay and the accommodation and teaching arrangements.

No, “Visitors” are not required to pay the charge.

We are pleased to be able to provide small class sizes to aid learning.

Yes, we will be providing 5 levels of teaching to cover a wide range of abilities. We do not, however, provide teaching for English beginners. 

Yes, they will all have the relevant qualifications.

Yes there is an example of our weekly timetable available to view on the website.

Yes, you and your child will be provided with a copy of the complaints procedure which will tell you what you need to do. It will also be explained to the students at the beginning of the course.
