Our English course is designed to:
challenge pupils
improve their language skills
increase their confidence using English
provide multicultural learning with pupils from across the globe
Stonyhurst offers the perfect environment for contextual language learning as pupils are immersed in the rich history of the school with support from specialist teachers.
Our range of teaching methods includes group work, role-play, games, surveys, presentations, quizzes, interviews, talks and workshops, as well as fun off-site excursions.
At the end of the course, each pupil receives a report and a certificate at an awards ceremony. The awards ceremony does not only reward academic achievements, but also sporting success.

HOW WE CREATE OUR TEACHING GROUPS
Each course is pupil focused where teaching is adapted to each child’s needs using:
1) Tailored teaching levels from elementary to advanced classes.
2) Online assessment upon arrival and progress test at the end of each course to monitor pupil engagement.
ENGLISH ABILITY LEVELS
Elementary - A2
Intermediate - B1-B2
Advanced - C1-C2
Please note, we do not accept beginners. A basic understanding and ability of English is required to attend the Stonyhurst Summer School.

Activities & Excursions
The English Language Course runs until 3:30pm on the timetabled days. Once lessons have finished, the pupils are then invited to take part in all that our Activity Leaders have to offer! From football to arts and crafts, table tennis and lino ball...there is something for everyone!
Every pupil also enjoys two off site excursions per week (one half day, one full day) which have previously included:
UK city sightseeing and cultural excursions
Theme parks
Shopping trips
Water sports

English Language course with Tennis Academy
The two or four-week residential English Language and tennis course is designed for international boys and girls, aged 10-17 years, who are looking to improve their English language skills alongside tennis tuition.
