Academic Excellence
At Stonyhurst, every pupil is challenged and supported to achieve their personal best. Rooted in Jesuit values and the Ignatian principle of cura personalis – care for the whole person – our academic approach combines intellectual rigour, innovation and tailored opportunities to inspire lifelong achievement.
A Tradition of Excellence
For over 430 years, Stonyhurst has nurtured intellectually curious young people who go on to thrive at leading universities across the UK and around the world. Academic success here is driven not only by outstanding teaching and results, but by a culture that encourages pupils to think independently, ask meaningful questions and pursue excellence in all they do.
Inspired by the Jesuit tradition of education, pupils develop confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of learning within an environment where they are known, supported and challenged to succeed.

Tailored Academic Pathways
Every pupil’s journey at Stonyhurst is different. Our broad and flexible curriculum allows pupils to explore their strengths and interests while building the skills needed for future success.
In Figures and Rudiments, pupils benefit from a broad and stretching curriculum before progressing to GCSE study in Lower Grammar, Grammar and Syntax. At Sixth Form, pupils can choose from A levels, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or Cambridge Technical pathways, creating an education tailored to their ambitions and aspirations.
Small class sizes, exceptional teacher-pupil relationships and personalised guidance ensure every pupil is supported to flourish academically with confidence and purpose.
