Grammar and Syntax
The specification followed at GCSE is AQA Spanish. Link to AQA website.
In Grammar, pupils are introduced to the AQA Spanish text book, and cover the first module on ‘Lifestyle’, including the topics of: Diet, Wellbeing, Tobacco, Alcohol and drugs, Personal descriptions, Family situations and personal relationships, Plans for the future, and Equality and Poverty.
In Syntax the pupils move on to the third module entitled ‘Home and Environment’, including the topics of: What your house is like, What your area is like, Describing weather conditions, Pollution and the future of the planet, Looking after the environment and Christmas traditions. The course is assessed through four papers.
Paper 1: Listening: 45 minutes examination (35 minutes at Foundation Level). This is worth 25% of the GCSE.
Paper 2: Speaking. 10-12 minutes oral examination (7-9 minutes at Foundation Level). This is worth 25% of the GCSE
Paper 3: Reading. 1 hour examination (45 minutes at Foundation Level). This is worth 25% of the GCSE.
Paper 4: Writing. 1 hour 15 minutes examination (1 hour at Foundation Level). This is worth 25% of the GCSE.
Paired oral speaking sessions with the Spanish language assistant are ongoing throughout the year and regular vocabulary testing takes place.
