Stonyhurst Wanderers Golf vs Pupils
Saturday 12th September 2026
On a damp 12 September, the Wanderers golfers travelled to the College to take on the students in the annual match. A few OS were fortunate to hone their skills at the Royal Lytham St Annes links the day before helping the team feel ready to tackle the challenges of Stonyhurst Park Golf Club.
The formidable OS team was made up of: Colin Riddell OS 83, Warren England OS 83, Eric Craven OS 83, Rafa Marin OS 93, Paul Harben OS 96, Michael Downes OS 06, Dom and Marcus Rigby OS 93, Chris Brennan OS 02, Sam Morgan OS 08, Ben Dowds OS 19, and, making his debut, Rob Kellett OS 19. In truly authentic Stonyhurst weather conditions, all combatants were thoroughly soaked following a heavy downpour, but undeterred, the Wanderers battled on to record a strong win 4 1/2 - 1 1/2. On reflection, perhaps the inclement weather took its toll on the handful of Southern European college golfers used to playing in drier conditions. Following the match, all players returned to the College to be treated to an excellent 3-course meal in the Top Ref. The whole event was superbly organised and hosted by Jo-anne from the Association and Mark Walmsley and Adrian Davies from the Sports department. Whilst dates are still TBC, the Wanderers hope to return to the College next year in early September to allow the students to get their revenge.
