Fr Dermot Preston SJ, Provincial Superior of the British Jesuits, talked to students this week about their various roles within the chaplaincy at Stonyhurst. He heard about the work of the Emmaus Companions, pupils in Syntax (year 11), who help to plan Lower Line Masses. Higher Line students talked about their voluntary –  the Arrupé programme –  helping in the local community each week: their work includes supporting children in special schools and organising collections for a local food bank. Others spoke about the Faith that does Justice group, which is currently organising events for Fair Trade Week. Chirwirangwe, our partnership with St Peter’s Jesuit school in Zimbabwe was also represented, as students described how they regularly keep in touch with pupils there, via Skype and letter-writing. Chaplaincy prefects and  Eucharistic ministers also talked about their contribution to the life of the College.

Fr Dermot then visited Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall, where he met staff and pupils, and celebrated Mass in the Centenaries Theatre. This was led by Mr Gibson’s tutor group.
