Visiting Stonyhurst

Whether you would like to arrange a family visit before applying for your child to join us at Stonyhurst, you are a former pupil or parent and would like to visit us, perhaps because you are thinking of making a donation and would like to arrange a guided tour of the College and Collections, we would be delighted to welcome you.

Simply contact the relevant department to arrange your visit in advance then, upon your arrival, go first to Reception to sign-in and collect your Visitor’s Pass.

How to find us

Stonyhurst College is located near the village of Hurst Green, half an hour’s drive from our nearest mainline train station in Preston and approximately 50 minutes from Manchester Airport.  You’ll find directions below.

Directions by Road

If you are using satellite navigation you will need to use the postcode BB7 9PX.

From the North
Leave the M6 at junction 32 onto the A6. Turn right and follow the signs for Broughton. At the crossroads turn right on to the B5269 to Longridge and the B6243 to Hurst Green.

From the South
Leave the M6 at junction 31 and initially follow signs to Blackburn and Clitheroe on the A59. Then follow the Clitheroe and Whalley signs until the major roundabout, at which take the turn off for Whalley. At Whalley take the B6246 to Great Mitton and finally, the B6243 to Hurst Green.

From the M62
Leave at junction 18, and follow the M66, A56 and A6068 to Padiham, then turn left onto the A671 for Whalley, then the B6246 to Great Mitton and the B6243 to Hurst Green.

By Rail

The most convenient railway station for Stonyhurst is Preston, some 13 miles away from the College, just over 2 hours from London Euston and less than 3 hours from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

At the beginning and end of each term, and at half-term, transport by train and/or coach is arranged between Stonyhurst and London Euston.

By Air

We are easily accessible via Manchester and Liverpool International Airports which are both approximately 1 hour away by car. Trains run regularly from Manchester airport to Preston which is 30 minutes away from the College by taxi.

Transport to and from the airports at the beginning and end of term is arranged by the College.
