Dancers work with a professional ballet company

The dance department’s recent trip to see Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty in Manchester was a huge success.

The day began with creative ballet workshops, led by  Jenny Murphy, a former dancer in the company and now a teacher in their education department. Stonyhurst dance pupils aged 5 to 18 thoroughly enjoyed these workshops, in which they  learnt excerpts of ballet repertoire from the choreography of Sleeping Beauty, using their imaginations to develop these ideas further. All of the 25 dance pupils were impeccably behaved and gained invaluable experience from working with a professional ballet company and seeing a technical company class. Everyone enjoyed having lunch at the Lowry and watching a performance of Sleeping Beauty in the evening.
