Archives
The primary holdings of our archives are related to the history of the school from 1593 to the present day. Whilst the largest archival collections come from the 19th and 20th centuries at Stonyhurst, there are considerable surviving materials from our predecessor English Jesuit Colleges of St Omers, Bruges, and Liege.
In addition to records of the school, the Archivium contains a wide variety of records and items from the mediaeval period to the 20th century. More information can be found in the three documents below.
- Papers from recusant families – including the Shireburns and Welds, who owned the Stonyhurst estate before the College’s arrival in 1794
- Documents related to Jesuit history and education
- The Boardman Collection of Mediaeval Manuscripts at Stonyhurst
- Holdings of theological manuscripts including treatises, sermons, and other works from the 16th to the 19th centuries
